<image:title>Maine Travel Blog - Valentine’s Day in Maine - Date Night Dinners (Worth Leaving the Farmhouse For)</image:title>
<image:caption>Midcoast Maine is full of restaurants that feel special without being overly formal - the kind of places where you can settle in, take your time, and enjoy a great meal without rushing. Here are some of our favorites: Nina June, Rockport Maybe our favorite spot for cozy winter date nights. The menu is bold and flavorful, a fabulous fusion of Mediterranean and Maine cuisine. It’s ideal for sharing a few dishes and lingering over the table – and the view of Rockport Harbor can’t be beat! Best for: Couples who want something special. Franny’s Bistro, Camden If you want a lovely intimate spot in which to celebrate, Franny’s is a beautiful choice - quiet, warm, and thoughtfully done. How to do it: Go early, enjoy the full experience, then head home for dessert by the fire. In Good Company, Rockland A great option if you want something unfussy but delicious. They’ve got small plates, a warm atmosphere, and an easy locals’ vibe. Extra cozy move: Head to Rockland early and enjoy a sunset walk along the breakwater before dinner! <image:title>Maine Travel Blog - Valentine’s Day in Maine - Winter Activities for Couples (Simple + Scenic)</image:title>
<image:caption>Valentine’s doesn’t need to be a whole production. A few winter activities in Midcoast Maine are genuinely romantic in the simplest way, highlighting fresh air, beautiful scenery, and no crowds. Snowshoeing in the Camden Hills If there’s snow on the ground, a winter walk or snowshoe in the Camden Hills feels like stepping into a different world. How to do it well: Dress warmer than you think you’ll need, bring a thermos (hot chocolate or mulled wine goes a long way), and remember—it doesn’t have to be a big hike to feel special. A Coastal Walk (Cold, but Worth It) Winter is one of the best times for a coastal walk. The views feel endless, and the air is sharp and clean. Best move: Bundle up and choose a route with a clear turn-around point so you can enjoy it without pushing too far. The Rockland Breakwater is one of our favorites! Sunset Drive + Warm Drink After This is a great toasty winter plan: drive along the coast in late afternoon, watch the sky change over the water, then stop at the Lemon Bar for a warm drink on the way home. Pro tip: Route 1 along the coast between Rockland and Camden is a great option. Bring a blanket in the car - it makes spontaneous “pull over and look at the view” moments so much better. Ice Skating Outside (Classic Winter Fun) A great option if you want something active but low-pressure - especially fun if you follow it with dinner or hot chocolate. Hosmer Pond by the Camden Snowbowl is a classic. PLEASE make sure you see locals on the ice before you venture out!</image:caption>

<image:title>Maine Travel Blog - Valentine’s Day in Maine - Galentine’s in Maine (Girls Weekend Edition)</image:title>
<image:caption>If Valentine’s is about love, Galentine’s is about friendship and connection - and Midcoast Maine is made for that. Winter weekends are quieter, cozier, and perfect for slow mornings and simple outings. A Midcoast Brunch Date Start with brunch somewhere warm and delicious like Café Grazie - then wander around town with coffee in hand. How to do it: Go early, then take your time shopping, browsing, or stopping into local spots you wouldn’t normally make time for. Spa Day or Wellness Afternoon Book treatments at The Spa at Camden Harbour Inn or The Samoset. Relax and unwind together while enjoying some time away. Or have a DIY Spa Day at the Farmhouse Sometimes the best spa day is the one you create yourself, staying cozy at Three Sisters, soaking in the new Goodland wood-burning hot tub, slipping into plush spa robes, listening to your favorite vinyls by the fire, and savoring the luxury of nowhere else to be. <image:title>Maine Travel Blog - Valentine’s Day in Maine - Family-Friendly Valentine’s Ideas (Easy, Cozy, No Pressure)</image:title>
<image:caption>Valentine’s with kids doesn’t have to mean a “special event.” It’s often more fun (and more realistic) to lean into simple traditions. Here are some that are cozy, sweet, and low-effort. Sledding + Hot Chocolate After If there’s snow, go sledding - even for 30 minutes on the great sledding hill behind the farm - then come home for hot cocoa with marshmallows. Farmhouse Movie Night Pick a movie, make popcorn, and pile everyone on the couch. Make it feel special: If the weather’s not too cold, you could put the kids in cozy pajamas, layer on the blankets and have the movie night out on our screened porch. Puzzle + Board Game Night This is one of those winter things that everyone remembers later - simple, funny, and wholesomely nostalgic.</image:caption>

<image:title>Maine Travel Blog - Valentine’s Day in Maine - Cook at Home Favorites (One of the Best Valentine’s Plans)</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’re staying at Three Sisters Farm, cooking at home is honestly one of the best parts - especially in winter. With space to spread out and two kitchens, dinner can feel relaxed and fun instead of chaotic. Here are a few easy Valentine’s-at-home ideas: Make-Your-Own Pizza Night Perfect for couples, groups, and families - everyone gets what they want, and it feels festive with very little effort. Pick up some fresh pizza dough from The Carriage House in Thomaston for an extra special local twist! Cheese Board + Cozy Snacks Think: Maine cheeses (we STRONGLY recommend stopping by Lakin’s Gorges cheese hut, right down the road in Waldoboro), crackers, sliced apples, honey, and something warm from the oven. Our Family Recipe for Hot Mulled Wine: Adapted from a cookbook from a famous French bistro outside of Washington, DC, this recipe has been served at our family’s winter holidays and celebrations for at least 30 years. May it enrich your celebrations as well! Le Vin Chaud (Hot Mulled Wine) Serves 12 Rind of 1 orange Rind of 1 lemon 1 cup water 2 bay leaves 6 cloves 3 cinnamon sticks 1 cup sugar 1 gallon full-bodied red wine ½ cup of honey 1 ounce cognac Pinch of nutmet Remove the rind from the orange and lemon with a vegetable peeler. In a 1 ½ gallon saucepan, combine the water, lemon and orange rinds, bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon sticks and sugar. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Add the wine and steep over low flame for 15 more minutes. The wine must not boil. Remove from heat and stir in the honey, cognac and pinch of nutmeg. The wine is great right off the bat, and even better if you let it steep overnight. Serve with an orange slice if you’re feeling fancy – and an optional splash of cognac!</image:caption>

<image:title>Maine Travel Blog - Frozen Favorites: Family-Friendly Winter Activities in Maine - Ski & Snowboard Favorites</image:title>
<image:caption>Maine’s ski mountains offer a mix of serious terrain and family-friendly fun. With choices ranging from neighborhood favorites to day trips options to destination resorts, here are some of our top picks: Camden Snow Bowl – Just 30 minutes from Friendship, this seaside ski hill offers 20+ trails and an authentically retro vibe. The locals’ favorite, it’s the perfect place for kids to learn to ski and for adults to enjoy a quick, no crowds run down the maintain. It’s the only commercial ski mountain in the US where you can see the ocean from the summit. And bonus points, the Snow Bowl is home to the U.S. National Toboggan Championships each February! Lost Valley Ski Area (Auburn) – Great for beginners and families, with tubing, night skiing, and a cozy lodge for après-ski cocoa. It’s also under 2 hours from the farm, so easily experienced as a day trip. Sunday River (Newry) – One of Maine’s largest resorts, perfect for a full-day adventure or weekend trip. It also gets points for being the only one of the big mountains to offer night skiing - super helpful when it gets dark at 4:30! Sugarloaf Montain– Our favorite of Maine’s big mountains! Independently owned and operated, Sugarloaf has fewer crowds than the options further south, and even bigger vertical drops. In fact, it has the only lift-serviced, above-treeline skiing and snowboarding in the East. But while there are plenty of high-adrenaline trails for the expert skiers, it’s also got some of the kindest ski instructors and a great children’s program. <image:title>Maine Travel Blog - Frozen Favorites: Family-Friendly Winter Activities in Maine - Celebrate with Family-Friendly Activities</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’re looking for something with a little less adrenaline, snowshoeing and winter hiking are wonderful way to explore the coast in its quiet season. Bundle up and check out these peaceful trails: Beech Hill Preserve (Rockport) – This trail is known for its easy incline, sweeping Penobscot Bay views, and charming stone hut at the summit. It’s also close to the village of Rockport, so you can warm up with a fabulous hot beverage at Seafolk Coffee or a delicious meal at Nina June – while enjoying beautiful views of the harbor at both! Camden Hills State Park (Camden) – This easy-to-access state park has miles of well-marked winter trails for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. The Mt. Battie trail is the most famous. And if you’re hiking between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, be sure to check out the star at the top of the mountain! Merryspring Nature Center (Camden) – Family-friendly loops, wildlife tracks, and kid-sized discovery trails. It’s also handicap accessible. Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse (Rockland) - Bundle up for a mile-long walk across the granite jetty to the historic lighthouse. It’s especially beautiful at sunset – just be sure you’ve got enough light to make it back safely! Image by: Maine Hikes</image:caption>

<image:caption>Whether you prefer a festive rink or a frozen pond, Midcoast Maine delivers: Frozen Pond Skating – At Three Sisters Farm, guests often find the nearby coves and ponds frozen just right for a few gentle laps. Hosmer Pond in Camden (where the National Taboggon Championships finishes) is a perennial favorite – just please don’t be the first one out on the ice! The locals keep a sharp eye on ice conditions, so it’s always best to check with them before heading out and follow their lead! Winter Festivals: Don’t miss Rockland’s Pies on Parade in late January - 50+ pies served up in support of local food pantries! And you plan ahead, you can enter the Camden Public Library Ice-Carving Competition during Camden’s WinterFest, a weeklong celebration of winter and cozy community spirit, also typically in late January. <image:title>Maine Travel Blog - Frozen Favorites: Family-Friendly Winter Activities in Maine - What to Pack for Maine Winter Adventures</image:title>
<image:caption>Maine’s coastal winters are mostly “cozy cold,” with brisk sea breezes, glittering snow, and sunny days made for exploring – assuming you’re dressed appropriately! To stay toasty and warm, we recommend packing: Base Layers: Thermal tops and leggings (merino wool is worth it!) Mid Layers: Fleece or down vests for insulation (or if you’re a cold wimp like me, nothing beats a heated vest for keeping cozy!) Outerwear: Waterproof parka, snow pants, and gloves Footwear: Insulated boots with traction (especially for icy trails) Accessories: Wool hat, neck gaiter, hand warmers, and touchscreen gloves Extras: Ice cleats, ski goggles, and a thermos for hot cocoa Pro tip: Keep a “car kit” with blankets, snacks, and extra mittens – that way you’ll be ready whenever an adventure comes your way! <image:caption>Pick at the Right Time: Berries are typically at their best in mid to late summer. Check the farm’s website for the harvest schedule and availability. Dress for Success: Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear. Long sleeves and pants can help protect you from the sun and any pesky bugs. Bring Containers: While many farms provide containers for picking, bringing your own will speed up the process and make sure you have enough room for all your berries! Stay Hydrated: Bring water, especially on hot summer days. Keeping hydrated is key to enjoying your outing. Make It Fun: Bring along some friends or family. Berry picking becomes even more enjoyable with good company and a little friendly competition!</image:caption>

It’s “the largest annual gathering of traditional schooners in America,” and well-worth viewing. Grab a front row seat along the breakwater! You can also take advantage of awesome local farmers' markets like the one in Rockland and farmstands such as Beth’s in Warren, where you can find fresh strawberries and sweet corn to pack a picnic. And don’t forget to check out the area’s beaches, since a day spent swimming and sunbathing is the perfect way to unwind before the evening festivities. Our favorites include: Camden Beach: A lovely spot with calm waters that are perfect for younger children. Pemaquid Beach: Ideal for families, offering sandy shores and shallow waters for safe swimming. Reid State Park: A peaceful beach with beautiful views, perfect for a picnic or a relaxing day by the ocean. *Image By Outdoor Project</image:caption>

With multiple bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and ample living space, a vacation rental offers all the comforts of home and more. Create your own holiday traditions and memories in a special home away from home. Of course, in this category we are biased towards our own Three Sisters Farm, but we also love Ducktrap Lodge in Lincolnville and Wild Forever Farm in Harpswell. *Photo courtesy of Three Sisters Farm</image:caption>

<image:title>Maine Travel Blog - How to Plan the Perfect Fall Weekend Away in Maine - Choose the Perfect Destination</image:title>
<image:caption>When planning your fall weekend getaway in Maine, the first step is to choose the perfect destination. Whether you prefer the rugged coast, picturesque lakes, or charming small towns, Maine has something for everyone. Consider visiting Acadia National Park for breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and colorful foliage. Or, head to the MidCoast, where the charming towns of Camden and Rockland provide the ideal mix of outdoor adventures, cozy shops, and restaurants.</image:caption>

<image:title>Maine Travel Blog - How to Plan the Perfect Fall Weekend Away in Maine - Get Outdoors</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the best ways to experience Maine in the fall is by getting outside and exploring the natural beauty of the state. Go for a hike in the mountains (Mt. Battie is our favorite!), kayak along the coast, or take a scenic drive along one of Maine's many scenic byways. In our opinion, it’s hard to beat driving the Coastal Route (or at least doing part of it)! If you opt to stay at Three Sisters Farm, you can leave from our beloved Friendship and drive along the scenic shoreline through the picture-perfect towns of Camden and Rockport, before returning inland through the foothills and even more lovely towns. Don't forget to pack layers and sturdy shoes, as the weather can be unpredictable during the season.</image:caption>

<image:title>Maine Travel Blog - How to Plan the Perfect Fall Weekend Away in Maine - Enjoy Local Cuisine</image:title>
<image:caption>Maine is a foodie's paradise — known for its fresh seafood, hearty comfort food, and delicious baked goods, there’s a treat for every mood. Be sure to sample some of the local specialties, such as lobster rolls, clam chowder, and blueberry pie. To really enjoy your weekend getaway, visit a farmers' market or local farm stand (Beth’s is our favorite!) to pick up some fresh produce and delicious goodies.</image:caption>

<image:title>Maine Travel Blog - How to Plan the Perfect Fall Weekend Away in Maine - Stay in Cozy Accommodations</image:title>
<image:caption>To make your fall weekend getaway in Maine truly memorable, consider staying in a cozy spot that captures your perfect vision of Autumnal New England. Downeast, the grand Bar Harbor Inn is located right on the town’s Shore Path, providing a homey yet sophisticated feel. Conversely, the stand-alone Salt Cottages exude a breezy allure, with fire pits lending cozy vacationland vibes. In the MidCoast, our favorite options include the recently and beautifully restored Norumbega Inn in Camden or our charming farmhouse in Friendship. Whether you prefer a lakeside retreat or a seaside escape, there are plenty of options in Maine.</image:caption>
